Rooted in Lakota Horse Traditions
Spirit Horse memorials are inspired by Lakota horse dance sticks — carved forms created by a Lakota warrior to honor a horse lost in the hunt or in battle, and the relationship shared with that horse.
Historically, the carving acknowledged the horse’s courage, service, and partnership with its rider. The form represented presence and remembrance rather than decoration or exact likeness.
